The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, has placed the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as first university in Nigeria.
The 2026 list released on Thursday, October 9, indicates that UNILAG is sharing the first place spot alongside the University of Ibadan (UI) in the 801-1000 range of over 2191 institution across the world.
Outside Nigeria, UNILAG is also sharing the 801-1000 range with several institutions including University of Cape Coast, Ghana; Makerere University, Ghana; Alexandria University, Egypt; Cairo University, Egypt; Ains Sham University,Egypt; Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Mexico, among others.
The ranking which was meticulously conducted based on calibrated performance indicators included areas like teaching, research environment, research quality, and industry and international Outlook.
The UNILAG’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola appreciates the university community for the attainment of this feat.
