JAMACE Advocates for Inclusion of PWDs in Creative Industry

Just Abled Music and Creative Expressions (JAMACE) Foundation has called for the inclusion of People with Disabilities (PWDs) into the creative industry, urging Nigerians to appreciate their creativity and innovative skills.

Speaking at its annual inter-ability summit themed “Redefining Disability: Tech, Talent and Transformation”, on Thursday December 4, 2025, Chukwuemeka Rucci, the founder, expressed that the potential of people with disabilities is remarkable and giving them a chance reflects a broader understanding of their abilities beyond vulnerability.

According to him, the percentage of disabled individuals in the creative space is relatively low, highlighting that his organization (JAMACE) utilises the Skills, Talent, Interest, and Passion (STIP) Formula for the inclusion and empowerment of PWDs.

This, he described as an attempt to create spaces where they can thrive.

In an interview with UNILAG Sun, Ade Oyeyipo, the founder of Light Work Media and a social impact advocate, said that deaf persons should be given a space in the African creative sector.

“We wanted to start a campaign for Nigerian sign language, and when we started it, we realised that deaf persons are actually massively sidelined in our society,” he said.

“If they are not getting opportunities, it means that they are not really growing.”

He also reiterated the importance of inclusivity in the creative industry, urging creators to involve PWDs in their projects, compensate them fairly, and recognize their value.
