FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday to Honour Buhari

In honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 15 July, as a public holiday, following the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this today on behalf of the Federal Government.

Speaking about the late President, Dr. Tunji-Ojo said, “President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation.” He further urged Nigerians to spend the day reflecting on the life of the deceased President. “This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” he said.

Also highlighting the importance of the public holiday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, stated that it is being declared to honour the late President’s service to the nation, his role in advancing Nigeria’s democracy, and his lasting legacy in governance and national development.

In a similar development, the national flag will fly at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period from Sunday, 13 July 2025.

The Federal Government expressed heartfelt condolences to the late President’s family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, offering prayers for the peaceful rest of his soul.
