The University of Lagos Distance Learning Institute Students’ Association (DLISA) hosted the third edition of its Trade Fair and Cultural Day on Saturday, July 26, 2025, an effort aimed at promoting unity, student entrepreneurship and cultural engagement.
With the theme “Celebrating Diversity and Talent,” the event provided a platform for students to display not only their cultural heritage, but also their capacity for innovation, business, and enterprise. It attracted participation from the student body, members of staff, invited guests, and members of the university community.
Student-owned businesses were showcased across a range of sectors including food, fashion, crafts, and accessories. The trade fair component served as a live marketplace, offering students the opportunity to gain real-world entrepreneurial experience while strengthening their brand visibility and customer interaction skills.
In addition to the commercial displays, the cultural day featured traditional performances, music, and cultural presentations that celebrated Nigeria’s ethnic richness.
The Director of the Institute, Professor Risikat Dauda, described it as a celebration of togetherness and national growth In her opening address.
“This is a day of unity. Unity brings about progress and prosperity, and this is where it starts from. It’s a day we have set aside to learn from each other, connect and network for the uplifting of our country.”
One of the DLISA executives, speaking during a tour of the exhibition, further emphasized the significance of the event:
“We are not just students; we are culture bearers, creators, and change makers.”
